Old school reunion

So from I left off, the other week I learnt that XXXX isn’t called “XXXX” because Queenslanders can’t spell “piss”, and I don’t think my tour guide appreciated my answer to her question (I did try and say it tastefully). I also learnt that the 4X brewed here aint the same stuff we get back home. So anyway after a tour of the factory and a few free beers at their bar, we met up with some other Irish and English folk, and…well long story short, it was a long messy night in good old BrisVegas….good times!

That was a few weeks ago now, so my memory’s a little hazy as to what else I’ve been up to over the last few weeks. A couple of interviews for Electronic roles, still waiting to see how they go. Working, of course! Last weekend was proper hectic working two jobs for four days, thanks for the extra money! They’re really not all like this, but these are a couple of examples of the issues I need to resolve for Suncorp staff whilst working for Dell:

And here’s the campus for the University of Queensland (where I had an interview on Monday for the role in Data Centre Engineering), I was well impressed, and don’t even get me started on the tottie walking round that place:

…And I found out about an hour ago that we’ll be heading back there tonight, to see my friend Tom’s play.

The power of the ‘now world’ that is Facebook, did point out to me that someone that I used to go to school with is now living in Brisbane too. I managed to get in contact with him (again using that power that is Facebook), and found out that he (also named Dan) is living about an hour north of here, in a place called Mooloolaba. So Danny G and I decided to head up there for a couple of days last week (as we had the same days off), using the good old greyhound buses. I really haven’t seen Dan since about a month after we left school (nearly 9 years ago), so it was pretty awesome to meet up again, especially as it was the other side of the world.

Love getting out of BrisVegas as much as possible, I wanna see as much of Oz as possible whilst I’m here, and why not with some views like this (and the weird ones defiantly come out in Mooloolaba):

Also, the cocktail I co-invented was (finally) put on sale last week, the “Tingler” (I really didn’t name it, but it was funny when people were coming asking “can I have a tingler please”). A shot of Blue Vok (Curacao liqueur), topped with some Lift (That’s Aussie talk for Lemon Fanta), then topped with the muddlings of Vanilla Absolut, raspberries and mint. Also just finished working on the mocktail of the week for this week, we needed a “winter warmer” cos apparently it’s getting cold over here, hence why we’re using ginger, but apart from that it’s a lemon and lime sorbet (sooooo much sugar)….which meant I spent Monday night squeezing out fresh lemon and lime juice, it’ll be worth it!

This picture doesn't quite do it justice, but the "tingler"

I’ve been here now for 10 weeks, meaning Brisbane is the longest I’ve lived in any one place since I left England, and in a couple of weeks Australia will be the longest I’ve been in any one country.

I think another road trip is in order for my weekend (aka Wednesday and Thursday).

My stepper from The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation also arrived, a day late, so again, that link to sponsor me and help me to raise money for sick children in Queensland, Australia is http://www.imworkingwonders.com.au/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=397701. (FYI, I did about 10,000 steps at work last night…crazy hectic).

0 Steps done, 140,000 to go!

…Thanking you!
